Our books are produced and published as part of creative learning projects with young children. They are available as free downloads and also as printed paperbacks. Creating a book is a great cross curricular enrichment opportunity and often the idea becomes a platform for bigger schemes of work. The heroic hippo in this story is to become a beautiful and unique sculpture in the school grounds. The sculpture is a parallax made of wooden poles and the children have to be able to become architects, designers and sculptors as part of the process gaining real experience of those industries alongside professionals.

Hurst Hill Primary School are committed to making learning irresistible by creating inspiring learning experiences for all of their children and staff. Working in partnership with parents and the wider community helps create wonderful learning opportunities for everyone.

Working alongside Paul Hawkins (writer) and Paul Clay (illustrator) from Universal Learning, the children, teachers and support staff created this story with the children leading their learning.

We would like to say a very big thank you to all of the children, staff and friends who have worked on this book and very special thank you to all of the children from Year 1.
